Understand the concept

Density is a measure of “how much mass fits” in a given volume. In simple terms: the denser a material, the heavier it is for the same size.

The formula is straightforward: density = mass ÷ volume. Therefore, it is essential to keep the units consistent (for example, kg with m³, or g with cm³).

Practical example: if a material has a mass of 2 kg and occupies 1,000 cm³, first convert the volume: 1,000 cm³ = 0.001 m³. So density = 2 ÷ 0.001 = 2,000 kg/m³, which is equivalent to 2 g/cm³.

In everyday life, density appears in construction (weight of materials), engineering (selection of materials), laboratory (concentration and samples) and even cooking (why 1 cup of flour weighs less than 1 cup of sugar).
